Great combo pack of combination and speed squares, can’t do better for the price.
Purchased in April 2021 – so I’ve had this combo for a little less than two years and this has been perfect for my DIY needs. The speed square mine came with was true as far as I could tell and great for use on rough lumber 2×4’s, plywood etc. It’s not a machined piece of perfection but it wasn’t meant to be – it’s straight and angles are accurate for those purposes. If/when I need to measure with accuracy to the nearest millimeter or .001th degree I wouldn’t use this or probably any other speed square. I’d use a real measuring ruler and/or the combination square. If I ever needed a speed square with more precision I’d probably take a look at the DFM, Milwaukee or Woodpeckers speed squares, but I don’t see that day ever coming. As for the combination square, I don’t know if mine came true or not. I assumed it was for several months before checking. By that time, it was off a little so I quickly tried to true it up. There are plenty of YouTube videos out there – but one note of caution: DO NOT FILE DOWN THE REST TABS WITH COMBO RULER like one of the youtubers suggests. Sure it’s a steel ruler, but you could round off the edges in the process. Don’t ask how I know. Anyway, I was in a rush so I got it close enough. More recently (January 2023), I’ve had time to actually sit down, take my time and get it perfectly square, using the parallel line test. The whole process took maybe 20 minutes at most and all I used was small strips of rolled up 150 grit and 400 grit sandpaper. As I got closer to perfection I scraped less and less and checked more frequently. Again, no more than 20-30 minutes and now I have a perfectly square piece of equipment. My ruler is straight and the markings are clear so I can use it for relative measurements. But I mostly use it to draw or cut 90 degrees, so I wouldn’t care if it was a rhombus parallelogram or whatever else for my purposes. I am not marking it down because I had to true it up – unless you are willing to spend way way way more for a combination square, they all eventually will need to be adjusted. I’m just super glad that I can actually true it up if/when I need to and get it as close to perfection as my eyes can see so easily. If yours doesn’t come perfectly square – take 20 minutes to learn how to do it, you will have to at some point anyway.

Excellent value and quality as expected.
I was concerned by some other reviews that this speed square might be different than those in stores and possibly with manufacturing flaws, but I took a chance based on Swanson speed squares at the Lowe’s where I work. Happily other critical reviews were wrong. These were of the quality I was expecting. I will continue to use my finer measuring tools for precise woodworking measurements but these squares need not be religated to just rough carpentry. The speed square has a clean seam joint which allows it to sit right even against sharper edged project boards; lays flat and does not rock. I used it immediately on a small woodworking project to draw angled lines for jigsaw cuts and also as a quick guide edge for one square crosscut with my cordless circular saw.The small combination square was the perfect size to locate and mark screw holes which only needed to be in 1-5/8″ from one edge and down 3/4″ from the top edge. It was easier than my larger combo square to hold in place while marking. The two piece package is a great value. The price for both squares was less than the regular price of just the speed square at local retail stores. The booklet (also in store packages) is a nice addition to ensure awareness of various usage features and the markings on the speed square, and to provide some useful info for carpentry.Very pleased that I took the chance on this package deal. These are sure to be used frequently in my home workshop and will go with me in my tool bag for use away from home too.

Two of the most useful tools around for carpentry, metal work and more. This set is a great deal.
I’ve purchased this set twice and keep one in my work truck and one in my shop. I use both for pretty much any work I do. They even recently improved upon the design of the speed square and now the scribe bar (1/4″ notches inside the triangular cutout) runs that entire side of the triangle rather than just 1.5″ of it. Pretty cool to see a company with a product this successful still making an effort to continually improve it. It’s by far the easiest speed square to read in all lighting conditions from poorly lit shops and basements to full-on direct sunlight. The combo square is as good as you could ask for in a set like this too. It’s not a Starrett, but both of the ones I own came square which is more than I can say for the blue empire tools that cost more than this one. The inclusion of just one mm scale on the combo square rule is nice to have sometimes. Glad they only have 1 though. It’s a PITA when they put two metric scales on a combo square as it really messes up some of the layout processes I regularly use these for. Great little set. Has become a go-to gift item for makers, craftsmen, and even brought one to a white elephant gift exchange!

Very good purchase, top class purchase. Both items are above and beyond the call of duty. Swansons have the reputation for the best speed squares while the 6 inch adjustable square is well thought out. The scribing pin is SCREWED in. No lost scribes any more.
