   A lot is lost but bucks are saved, choose your precision.
   I mean, you get what you pay for. There is another, much more widely known brand, whose name I dare not say here, let’s just say they’re a fairly large oranization, who simply put makes much better stuff at a higher price. This is a budget friendly alternative, but you’ll notice a reduction in level marks and a teensy bit more problems trying to get the slide ruler back in. Then there’s the print vs. engraving.

I found both squares to be square relative to ‘red’ standard and a digital device (see images). The finishes are nice except for slight bubbles on the combination square. The carpenter’s pencil was a pleasant surprise. It is somewhat like a larger one I have beed using for sometime. It has a built in sharpener for the large diameter of hard lead that feeds through as a continuous piece but can be sharpened to a fine point. I like that it is smaller than my current one. The framers square feels nice, is easy to read, and the measurements appear to be spot on. The combination square also squares up nicely (see images). Unlike some others, I really like the ruler on the square. It is accurately calibrated, is 1/16” thick and sturdy and slides/locks more easily than current squares’ rulers. I also find the level bubble useful in reinforcing squareness. However, since the numbers aren’t etched into the ruler, I suspect they will likely rub off with time. The included scrubbing pin is too short for me to find useful.PRECISE RATING: 4.5 (good at doing what I need, at least one exceptional characteristic, probably would buy again)MOST INFLUENTIAL RATING CONSIDERATION: value (positively), ruler numbers (negatively)RECOMMENDATION: I can recommend this kit, especially at this price. It is certainly suitable for we DIYers.    Sorry I bought them! Not water proof, don’t stay off as they come on at will, and the little bit of water that gets in creates rusty conditions. – October 5, 2025
