Don’t buy
Used one time and it worked great but then the second piece I had to part, the product broke. I was parting 3/4â mild steel rod and I was going slow so I wouldnât put much pressure on the tool, but then all of a sudden the tool snapped. Donât buy!!!

Be Fairly Gentle and No Side Loads
Tool cuts nicely, but can easily be overloaded. Tool cannot take any sideloads – accidental or otherwise. Please note that I am an amateur metalworker, so take this review as a grain of salt.

Good quality tool and carbide for the price.
I use this tool on my South bend model A lathe and have no problem parting aluminum, brass, titanium and steel. DOC max out at just over .600 so it won’t quite make it through 1.25″ stock. Still a useful addition to the home shop.

Tool looked nice but broke very easily
I was excited to get this tool because I am tired of dealing with the hassles of HSS parting tools. Upon arrival, it seemed like a nice, well designed tool. I used the tool for the first time yesterday. I was cutting some 1018 steel. I was using cutting fluid and light tool pressure taking a .002″ cut. The tool made it about .060″ into the work piece with no chatter or other issues and suddenly broke just behind and under the carbide insert. I believe that the steel that the tool is made of was too hard in this area and became brittle and broke like it was a piece of glass. Now I have a box of 10 of the GTN-2 carbide inserts with no tool to use them in. I purchased another parting tool from another company and have not had any issues. I really wanted to like this tool.
