Pretty good propane forge
One of my teen sons has been talking about wanting to get into knife making and blacksmithing for a while now, so I picked this up to get him started on the path. I’m no expert in blacksmithing by any means, but I know the basics and overall this does seem to do a good job of heating metal. It’s pretty easy to get it set up and running. I’m not sure if it’s required, there were no instructions included, but he wanted me to get some refractory cement to line it and it’s working well for him so far. One of the fire bricks that it came with cracked on the first use, but it’s not really a huge deal since they’re just there to rest the metal on inside the forge. The flame adjustment is a bit fiddly, like very sensitive. It takes a bit to get it dialed in well to produce a nice clean flame with no sputtering. Overall he likes it and I’m happy to encourage hobbies besides video games. 🙂

The only thing that I am still worried about is a better way co control the burn tubes. I am not using it right now because of back injury but when I get it out next fall I will get that worked out, well made HOT HOT HOT

Not safe for use
Iâve had this forge for several months now and I wouldnât say that I have used it a lot. Thatâs really only because of the inconsistency with the flame output of the jets. They constantly sputter and shoot flames out of the air intake toward the gas line. Iâve added an adjustable choke to each burner and a shut off valve in between the burners and the gas line. When I open the back door and shut the front burner off I can get a consistent flame from the back burner for about 20 minutes. Not to mention the regulator is made of plastic.The fire bricks both cracked and broke with less than 3 hours of use. You absolutely should coat the inside with a refractory cement.Iâm not sure that itâs a great value as Iâve had to spend a bunch on extra pieces just to make it safe for use and I donât get to really use it.

Got this as it was on sale. Wanted to learn how to forge metal. Things changed quickly and I needed to return it, but this is a non returnable Item, keep this in mind when you purchase. So I am stuck with this for now.First off, if you are interested in this one as I was because of the “door”. No, the “door” is not hinged, more like screwed to the body. Un-screw the pin and the door comes off. Next, the inside looks nothing like the picture. It is standard Ceramic Fiber Insulation not molded like it shows. The description also says you can use it as is, but do not! I say again, “do not use as is”. It will need to be sealed. Using a Rigidizer or something similar. Plus then it needs to covered with refractory cement. So factor this into your budget when making a purchase of this type. The forge is made so the insulation can be removed, there are screws that hold the insulation in place, making it easier to seal and or replace the insulation when needed. Also you will need an anvil, hammers and tongs. I believe this forge will be a good one for a beginner to start with. I can not say the burner works or if it gets hot enough. I can not use it, as things have changed.
