Good for the price
This are good for those just starting out with basket weaving. They are not top quality but work good enough for people that don’t do a lot of basket weaving or those just starting. The gauge ruler is plastic and seems to have to have the right measurements on it. The cutters are good, but you can tell right away that they are cheaply made. They are good for cutting flat reed and small round reed. If you want to cut thicker reed these don’t work very good. The nippers work good for cutting all the stray strands of splintered reed. The awl does its job nicely. It is small enough to fit in tight places so you can weave your ends in very nicely. It’s metal and seems like it will last for a long time. The weave pusher is also nice. It has a wide end on one side and a narrow end in the other. It makes it easy to get a good tight weave. It’s a light weight wood so it doesn’t get heavy in your hand while weaving. So far I have been happy with this tool set. Everything has worked well for me, but if you plan on doing a lot of weaving I would recommend getting better cutters for the reed. I would recommend this to beginners and those that don’t plan on doing a lot of weaving.

good starter kit
Good basic tool set, but does not include the packing tool pictured in the. “Basic Basket Making” book. The little nipper is particularly good for cleaning up wispy bits.

Hobby Starter Kit
This is a practical starter kit for a person new to basket weaving. Everything you need is here, including shears, ruler, awl, and others. I’m glad I went with this solution, rather than trying to piece it together with things that I might or might not already have had around the house.

Good buy for the combination
Good buy! Yes, it’s a really basic set of tools for cane & reed basketry (don’t bother with this for twined or coiled baskets!) but they’re useful ones. Yes, the awl is a small one you can get at any hardware store and the packing tool could be replaced by a flat head screwdriver, but I’ve priced the tools individually elsewhere at basketry shops and this is a good buy even all you really want are the cane cutters & snips and the gauge. So I’m quite happy with my purchase, thanks!
