Lovely stick
I didn’t want this bar for grinding and polishing, just as a nice looking structural piece connecting two heavy parts of a sculpture, and i thought the pattern might work. It really does, providing a gorgeous contrast to the black steel on both sides. I welded with mild steel fluxcore wire, and had to seriously get all that oil off first. Afterward, I did not reapply oil because the bar will not be touched by anything. If the naked metal is going to start rusting just from ambient humidity, then I will polish and oil, but I’d prefer not to. Wasn’t the cheapest piece of steel but the look is worth it!

What kind of metals?
Really wish they would have told me what steels it’s made from. Looks nice. But without that info, I’m at a loss on the product.Update!Full of flaws and cold shuts.

Impressive
This Canadian made Damascus knife blank is beautiful. It’s oiled, wrapped in cellophane, in a plastic sleeve, and then in bubble wrap before being boxed. They are serious about protecting this work of art. I have made a few knives from saw blades. Now that I have the opportunity to work with Damascus steel I’m going to take my time studying it and decide upon the perfect pattern. I don’t want to mess this up, but if I do the price is very reasonable.

Very happy with it. I used it to remake a lever loop on my airsoft lever action rifle. I can’t speak as to how it heat treats/holds a knife edge. I’m not a knife maker. After working the piece you naturally loose the etch that it came with (very deep etch). I had to re-etch it. I used a 10:1 muriatic acid mix for 1hr. Then did a coffee dip for 5.5hrs (although I didn’t notice a huge difference). I restored the color pattern although not as deep a etch. I then spray painted the piece clear to add protection.
