AMAZING tool for removing those pesky tiny yet long staples.
While removing carpet from my stairs, I encountered a silver thin, approximately 1/4-inch-wide staple, yet very long (approximately 1 inch deep), used to tack down the carpet. Unlike typical staples, which can be easily removed, these staples are virtually impossible to remove with pliers or a small crowbar. It took me hours to remove these staples from one stair. I was on the verge of giving up until I discovered this AMAZING tool. The unique head design serves as a fulcrum to remove these pesky staples. The grip is incredible; once it gets hold of this staple, it comes out so easily. In the time it took me to remove just a few staples with the typical tools, I was able to clear an entire stair full of staples. The weight is good. Not too heavy. Does not hurt my hand when using, unlike pliers, which often slip and bite. Ouch! The functionality is excellent. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Worth every penny.

Must have for Carpentry, finishing, trimwork=
Wore this thing smooth. Pulled thousands of nails with this thing will upload picture later. doesn’t hurt your material and will pull anything if you can get it to bite. Awesome tool. Comfortable. i have had to retire mine as i wore it completely out.Wouldn’t change a thing besides a spring to reopen the tool after nail removal.

    Makes pulling nails easy
I have been removing baseboards and could not get the nails that were left behind out of the wall. My contractor recommended this tool. It works like a dream.

The jaw opening is very limited. Tight with a 16p nail
    Very heavy build, great quality

Simple tool but perfect for pin nails
Works great for removing tiny pin nails from reclaimed ceiling. The jaws dont open very wide but they work perfectly for small nails, staples, and pins.

    Rugged.
This is a rugged, heavy-duty nail puller, and basically a good value, but the jaws on the nail grabber pliers part of the tool that I received do not mesh together closely enough to grab on to short, fine nails and brads. The jaws on the unit I received don’t get closer together than about 1/16 of an inch for the first 1/4 inch or do of their travel, so they can’t grab on to anything small. The item I received should work well on larger diameter nails, but not on the smaller stuff that I bought it for. It was received promptly, and does seem like a decent tool for the money for larger diameter fasteners.

    Excellent tool.
Used this to pull thousands of small carpet staples from my hardwood stairwell. The end of the pliers were good at grabbing even small ends of broken staples.

    Do. Not buy.
Should be zero stars. I have cresent brand nail puller plier that is amazing. I was on a job site and needed 2 more. Couldnt find it at the big bix stores, so i bought this brand on amazon. These pliers suck. Hard to open. You need 2 hands to open and close, and they hardly open. Absolutely not worth it.Do. Not. Buy. These.

This tool is not the complete answer to all of your nail pulling problems. You definitely need it in your tool kit and it is good but you also need Carpenters pincers – a cheap set from Travis Perkins will do but I also have Irwin Vise-Grip End Cutters 8″ (203mm) from Screwfix which is better than the Carpenters pincers as long as you don’t squeeze too hard and cut the nail. Also you need a crowbar/ wrecking bar / prybar whatever you want to call it and a claw hammer. These tools between them will pull out most nails.I have been using the Bates Nail-puller over four consecutive days to extract literally hundreds of nails in a lathe and plaster ceiling that the other tools will not pull. It is true that the jaw does not open very wide and ideally it should be designed to open a little wider but it comes into its own when the nail is in tight and claw hammer or crow bar has snapped the head off a rusty tack. The Bates nail puller will grip the shaft of the nail and with its long handles enable you to grip what is left, give it a slight twist and lever the nail out using the quadrant. I would suggest that those giving this tool a one or two-star do not know how to use it properly. And it is made well enough to do the job it is intended for. I probably wouldn’t have bought this tool if I had read the negative comments first which is the danger of reading comments from people who are not competent and blame the tool rather than their own ability.
