   One More Tool in the Tool Kit
   I got this for home use. It just struck me as a novel way of getting at hard-to-get stuff. The corkscrew end means you can work it in around things (like its intended use–packing) and pull it out. And the flexible shaft means you can work around corners.The tool feels sturdy, and the handle grip is ergonomic. And the whole thing doesn’t take up much space. So when my next DIY project emerges, I now have another arrow in my quiver. Another tool in my tool box. etc. Bring it on!

   The Allpax Flexible Packing Hook (No. 1) was exactly what I expected. There is no substitute for having this tool to remove valve packing. The wire shaft is stiff but with enough flexibility to allow access into the packing glad. The Cork-screw tip is sharp and easily penetrated the old packing. An essential add to my tool box. Highly recommended

   Well made tool that works as described
   This 11″ (No. 2) flexible packing hook is as described. The handle end is stamped “Made in USA”. All the swaged connections are tight and solid. There is no twist in the flex section when a load is applied. The “t” handle is 3-7/8″ overall length and 3/16″ diameter solid rod stock. The corkscrew threads onto the tool and holds tightly in place. The corkscrew end is well pointed. The flex shaft diameter is 1/4″. This is a robust tool for packing removal.

   Packing puller
   I received the packing puller and put it in the work truck, I go to use it to re pack a stuffing box on a water well and I noticed there was no screw end, it was just a threaded end in it. Not sure if the screw was in the bag and I didn’t notice it or it never came with it. Anyways, it’s useless for me now.

   Excellent quality.
   These Allpax hooks, together with maybe CS Osborne, represent the gold standard of packing extractors.Useful for pump packing jobs and probably other applications where you need to grab something stuck around a corner with limited access.The hook is stiff to rotation in both directions, with about 90° of total flex along the length. This #2 hook is approx 11 inches in total length. All crimped steel construction. I would guess at least the corkscrew tip is fairly high carbon, so store it in a dry place and rub on a little oil.Made in USA.

   For removing old packing in a marine gland nut, this will save you time and the skin on your knuckles. I was able to accomplish more in 5 minutes with this tool than I was by digging and sweating with screwdrivers and picks for hours. If it breaks … I’ll buy it again!
