I like this rafter square for its solid, thick materials. It should last for a long time. It includes a number of good features for quick layout for carpentry and woodworking. There is a spring-locked, flip down bar for mar king perpendicular and 45° marks or alignments. Also there are a number of pencil guide notches, spaced on the ¼” from ¾” to 6″, so you could make parallel marks by drawing the square along an edge with a pencil in a guide notch.Then there are numerous circles and other geometric shapes cut out in the thick anodized aluminum body. That’s an issue as there is no information explaining their purpose. A booklet or an URL would be very helpful to utilize the square to it’s designed potential.It is supplied with a machined straight bar meant to be attached using the supplied handled machine screw. This bar has four holes drilled and tapped to fit this screw’s threads. None of the holes in the square are close to a tight fit for the threads so it cannot make even close to accurate nor repeatable angle measurements…a little info +/or tighter tolerances would really help here: it could be a very useful feature. Finally the bolt has almost 1.5″ of threads so to tighten down there accessory bar to the square’s body takes dozens of turns. I think there might be a rationale behind this that I’ve missed entirely… but I just can’t imagine.
