An OK Compass but has a few drawbacks
The compass is neatly done in anodized aluminum. The center point has a place where it screws in when not in use. The minimum radius is 1 inch. For laying out arcs or circles of a specific radius onto large stock, this product works just fine. On small workpieces where the compass hangs over the edge, it gets tippy and a bit hard to handle.I found the center point to be thicker than I would like. You have to hold down the center during the scribing process. The hole for pen/pencil is small and works best with a very fine point pen or a mechanical pencil. All in all, I like it better than many of the drafting compasses I have worked with.

Nice sturdy tool for drawing circles
I used this to trace some circles on the backside of a velcro sheet that I needed to cut. This is quite a fair bit sturdier than regular compass, and has a nice locking mechanism which ensures you don’t accidentally lose the radius that you were tracing at. Quality is quite nice, and I like that it includes a build-in holder for the pivot needle.

Does the job, but is awkward
The tool is made well, but honestly a bit heavy & bulky making it difficult to use in most applications.I had to modify my holes (drilled them larger) to accommodate a standard pencil, you’d have little problem with a mechanical pencil, but then the weight needed to push will probably bend or break a standard mech pencil. Also the weight needed to move such a heavy object makes this prone to slipping unless your are exerting a lot of effort on the center pin. This almost always results in a large hole in softer materials. Materials like metal, this thing is going to slide all over the place. Its a good concept, but needs to be made of MUCH lighter materials (and it is aluminum) to be of any use for most jobs. This is great for very specific projects, but wont be of much use most of the time.

Good quality
Needed a way to mark bigger circles than a protractor, this works perfectly.

Great bean compass
Great beam compass. I use it in woodworking. In most cases I find it much easier to use than the layout and drafting compasses I have used in the past, and it feels much more solid than even the famous brands of those compasses.I bought the “mini” version of the compass that can make circles with radii from 1″ to 7″. The size of the compass is very compact considering it can create circles with a diameter from 2″ to 14″.In addition to the imperial scale (inches), the compass has a metric scale (mm).Buyers should be aware that in this compass, the places where you insert a pencil have holes that seem to be sized for the use of a mechanical pencil with an extended barrel for use within templates, like the ones that use 0.5mm lead. If you’re not familiar with that type of pencil, search Amazon for “mechanical pencil 0.5” to see some examples.
