BMWood responded very quickly to a problem mounting Nova jaws on the chuck
I haven’t used it yet, but it looks like a good chuck, with a small problem. I took off the standard jaws that came with it and tried some Nova small jaws on it. The small jaws cover the inner ring of mounting screws, and use only the outer ring. When tightened (as Nova recommends) using the BMWood screws, jaw 2 popped up above the others, away from the chuck face. When placed on the other chuck mounting feet, it did not. I put those jaws back on one of my Nova G3 chucks, and put BMWood’s standard 50mm jaws back on the NCK-4M chuck. I suspected and reported to BMWood that the mounting screw hole might be at fault and requested a new mounting foot. BMWood agreed and very quickly sent a whole new chuck via Amazon. I then found a similar problem with the Nova jaw set on the second chuck But this time, I noticed that a screw head seemed off. BMWood kindly sends an extra 8 screws with each chuck, along with a wood worm screw, a set of nylon washers and adjustment tools. Out of the 16 screws, I found 6 or 7 that did not cause a problem with one-screw jaws. If a user finds this problem with one-screw jaws, the user should trade screws around until the problem goes away. It is not so critical on two-screw jaws, which seem to work just fine. Otherwise, I like the chuck, intend to use both of them, and will probably buy another. Not only is it cheaper than Nova chucks, but it has a wider range of opening, about 27mm change in jaw diameter, compared to 18 to 20mm for the Nova chucks. I appreciate that BMWood was open to a detailed description of a problem, and willing to make a quick correction. As for the screws, I’m going to check the dimensions and see about getting some better ones from Wholesale Tool (wttool.com), which has a store in Tulsa. The chuck comes a bit drenched in machine oil. I recommend that a user mount it on the lathe, cover it with the Amazon box, and spin it up to sling the much of the excess oil off it, then wipe it down with a clean cloth or paper towel.

Could have been really good if not for poor quality control
I was really hopeful when I ordered this. Even when I opened the package, it really looked like a quality chuck. Everything was well packaged and the parts were well machined.My problem was that the jaws weren’t concentric. That is, one jaw was off by about 1/8″.It’s not a huge error, but it means that when I take my workpiece off and put it back on it won’t be centered unless I mark it and put it back in the exact same spot. I really shouldn’t need to do that.

Product is good but one star off as does not accommodate SPAX no5 screws for holding plate to wood so having to use smaller no4 with less grip. My other faceplates all accept no5 screws and only use SPAX due to strength
