I like it !!
I really like this tool . There is no other of its kind that I’m aware of that have the features this has . With all the different ways you can articulate this tool I can’t think of a situation where itwon’t work . It’s bigger than I thought which is good . Kind of chunky in fact .It takes up much more space in your tool bag then the school compass does . It’s very well made except for the pencil that comes with it . Throw that away . While were talking pencils I read the reviews about the pencil holder and almost didn’t buy this tool . I decided to go ahead with the purchase because everything else I’ve gotten from fastcap has been top shelf . But you can bet what the first thing I checked was . And I thought at first there was a problem because the pencil would pop up and out of its holder . But the reason was obvious right away . This scribe is designed to hold a sharpie and a # 2 pencil . In order to do that the hole in the clamp is the diameter of a sharpie . So to use a pencil requires a reducer bushing that slips around the pencil making the pencil the diameter of a sharpie . Simple enough and works great to but only if the bushing is pushed in from the bottom side of the clamp . Then the bushing holds the pencil nicely . Mine came with the bushing pushed in from the top . And I suspect all the people who had problems with there pencil holders were like mine was . Once I slipped the bushing on the pencil from the tip end and put it back in the clamp all worked great . In fact there is no need to loosen the clamp at all to adjust the pencil length . Just push the pencil and bushing out the bottom of the holder , slide the bushing up or down as needed on the pencil and slip the pencil back in its holder . That’s much easier and faster than loosening the clamp nut . The only time I need to loosen and tighten the clamp nut is when using a sharpie . The sharpies don’t leave as fine a line as a pencil does but there much better for rough work than a pencil . I thing it’s worth the bushing in order to be able to use both a pencil and a marker . The metal compass point is adjustable and can even be retracted completely out of the way . Allowing you to use the tool itself against the wall or whatever your scribing without risk of scratching anything with the metal point . The scribe is about a inch wide and will lay flat against the surface your tracing which makes it very stable . Or you can use the compass point as you would a traditional compass to trace with . The brass knobs are nice , they have fine knurling on them to aid with grip . The built in pencil sharpener is huge and works well . Fastcap puts them on their tape measures as well which is nice when your doing trim work out in the field . As I said I like this scribe and I’ve tried a lot of them .

Essential for my woodworking projects
This scribing tool is a game-changer! I’ve been using it for my woodworking projects and it’s incredibly accurate. The adjustable depth and the smooth gliding action make it easy to scribe perfect lines every time. It’s a bit of an investment, but the quality and precision are definitely worth it.

Great design, but construction could be better.
It feels like it’s made of cheap cbrittle ABS plastic. Pencil holder is very tight and tough to adjust.I do like the concept though. Allows you to flatten it to get in tighter places, and also open it up to do wrap around scribes.I’m sure they built it this way to get it under $20, but maybe if they did a more expensive pro version made out of fiber reinforced nylon, would be more durable in a tool belt, could make it a little less bulky also.Only other complaints, I like the retractable point, but there’s no retention for it, so I can see it getting lost. Also, the plastic marred up my wall, had to put painter’s tape on it, but I think this could be addressed in an updated model using non marring nylon. And it is pretty bulky. Part of which is a function of its purpose, but the tip is pretty chunky, which makes it impossible to scribe under 1/4″.All and all good product, definitely an upgrade from the old styles, just be gentle with it.

Different directions it allows you to scribe.
Accurate and one of the best scribe tools I ever used. Full time carpenter and I recommend this one all the time.

I never knew how much I needed a scribe until now
I’ve just started getting into more difficult wood working on a boat where there’s seldom a straight piece of wood. It’s a boat so everything is curved. I didn’t understand how to use a scribe at first, but quickly got the hang of how to trace out irregular shapes and transfer them to templates. I recommend taking a look at online videos for scribing techniques to get the most out of the tool. This is definitely a must learn skill if you are doing carpentry. The tool is very well made, has lots of adjustments and I’m happy with it. It’s probably one of my more favorite tools to haul out when I’m working. I’ve been able to scribe very closely because of the adjustments in the angles and where the pencil fits. I don’t have the experience of someone that does this everyday, but coming from an intermediate wood worker it has worked well for me. I’m not sure what else would work better because I’ve found this fits my needs.

Great concept, less than great execution.
The overall quality of this product is very good and the concept makes it very useful in my shop. HOWEVER, upon receiving the tool it immediately became apparent that something went wrong in the manufacturing process. The plastic sleeve that inserts into the pencil slot is way too small to hold the diameter of a normal pencil. The pencil it came with was so jammed and compressed into the slot moving it for adjustment was out of the question. I had to go to hand tools to remove the pencil. I ended up reworking the sleeve by boring it out to accept normal pencil diameters on my drill press. So if you’re willing to spend the time to rework this product to make it useable, then I recommend this product with that caveat. As an update – because the product promises a lifetime unconditional guarantee, I called their hotline and spoke with Conner. Nice enough guy but they did not honor the unconditional guarantee. They wanted me to take pictures and write a description of the problem because he had never heard of the problem previously before they would send the replacement part. It’s a $16.00 purchase and my time to comply with all their requests just wasn’t worth the time. My time to write their essay far exceeds the value of this tool. So purchase at your own risk knowing that it is unlikely you will get action upon the unconditional guarantee without conditions being put upon it.

I scribe a lot while fitting bedroom furniture, and was keen to try this tool, not least as it is non-marking – metal compass’ need taping up to stop them marking walls. It is a good tool, but I have cut off the rear ‘bumps’ which I felt can rock the pencil tip off line if the rear end meets a bump. The pencil holder is an odd size too, but does hold the pencil ok once it is in. I have used a fine propelling pencil in the holder so that the pencil itself doesn’t need to be moved. Not the perfect solution but all in all I am pleased with it.

Is well made and does what it’s supposed to do. It doesn’t slip after tightening like some do. You won’t be disappointed if you purchase this product
