    Better quality than expected
This was much better quality than I was expecting. The tread-ends are 1/4″ thick aluminum. The sliders are thinner, but have ribs that add rigidity when handled vertically. All of the tapped holes were cleanly threaded. The finish is smoothly machined. Markings were etched (not surfaced marked) and colored for clear visibility. And, it comes in a nice storage case with foam slots.I am very mechanical and had no issues putting it together and adjusting it for use. All of the screw holes are counterbored to allow the screw heads to be recessed. When the screws are fully threaded into the tool, they “seat” and won’t turn when you subsequently tighten the knobs. I didn’t even need the included allen key. The tool is designed very well. It adjusted and tightened fine and held it’s position securely. One thing I would suggest…After you adjust and tighten the gauge, do not remove it from the tread with one hand. If your tread width is long, it may cause the sliders to bend slightly. Lift it with 2 hands and once it’s cleared from the tread you can turn it vertically so your putting the stress and weight on the ribbed sliders. It’s good practice to always handle it with 2 hands, as it will prevent bending and coming out of adjustment. It includes a carpenter’s pencil, but I threw that in my tool pouch for other use – those types of pencil leads tend to be thicker. I used a sharper, fine-pointed pencil for these precise markings. As usual, I spent some time reviewing the different offerings, reading reviews and was ultimately happy with this choice. Price-wise, it was not the cheapest or the most expensive but was somewhere in the middle, but as I said I was very pleased with the quality and usefulness. I used it for a 36″ tread replacement project and it worked perfectly.NOTE: I purchased this item on Amazon for full price and have no affiliation to the seller. I try to write helpful, unbiased and insightful reviews because I also read reviews prior to making my own buying decisions. I notice many reviews lack helpful information, are too brief or give poor reviews based on failing to read the product details, inexperience or lack of skill. Writing useful reviews helps pay it forward.

Handy tool with a handy case
Well made tool that I used for replacing the treads on my stairs. I love that it comes in a.case for neat storage. It’s not a tool that will be used often, but since the stairs are right inside the entrance to my home, and the first thing you see, I wanted them done right, and this tool helped with that.

    Did the job
Worked for my stair treads. Settings are fragile and the slightest bump will move the tool. That said, measure twice, cut once. The tool worked well once I understood the tool.Custom cut 13 treads and risers accurately.

    Perfect template for stair thread
This is “must to have” tool if you planning to make and install stair threads. It’s not the professional tool, but it does excellent job. Of course you can buy special version on that tool for over $200, but only if you make/build stairs for living. If you make a set of stairs for your self and want to save money on the laber of professional installer, they get this tool. It’s made out of alu or something like that, you can adjust it to any uneven surface so you can cut your thread in right angle. The quality is great for the price, and you can’t beat that. This is perfect for the threads, but if you need to get a template for uprights, then you need to make some modifications to it, or purchase some extra parts. I made myself two pcs for the edge when I was making uprights,

I am a flooring contractor by trade. I figured I would get a new tool to see if I could help speed things up with certain projects. I picked this kit because I liked the storage box idea. While a little more expensive then some other options I prefer the idea that it’s not going to get all bent and dinged up from being tossed in my work truck.Just received this today and after opening it up to make sure everything was there and correct I have the following thoughts. Will have to update this when I do my first set of stairs with it.Shipping was quick. Showed up 2 days earlier then expectedAll parts were included and the bolts and nuts were proper sizes. The aluminum used seems sturdy and well built. At the moment my only concerns with it are trying to lock the bars when it’s in place. The bolts just side in so you would have to have a finger under to try and hold the bolt while tightening. Perhaps to fix this I would like to see the end holes on the rods tapped so the bolts thread in so you don’t have to hold it while you tighten the nut. (Just like how the end plates are tappedAnd perhaps a few more bots and nuts would help so you could add some extras for support on the rods when picking up.All in all it seems like a great product and I’m looking forward to seeing if this makes my stair projects faster and easier.

Package arrived on time. I opened it up… It looked fantastic. I go to put it together; what an absolute disappointment. Plenty of parts, but the screws and knobs don’t match up. I might as well throw it out. Fortunately, I’m a resourceful person. I’ll make the trip to the local nut and bolt shop and pick up the right size bolts and the correct lengths. Would I recommend anyone to buy this? NO!A message to the manufacturer and the vendor, you folks have got to work on your quality control.
