Not a bad concept, but this cabinet jig kit misses the mark on a few important details.
Honestly I am shocked at the number of 4-5 Star Reviews on this Alec Tools set of cabinet installation tools!I am a hobbyist cabinet maker/wood worker. I have a good amount of experience with a wide variety of tools/jigs.This Alec Tools cabinet installation tool jig is a close copy to the “K” company’s offering, but made from a cheaper polymer material.The basic concept of this cabinet jig is good, but the attention to details with this product is lacking.The included hinge screw pilot drill bit is too large in diameter for the hinge placement jig’s location holes. You will be drilling a larger hole in the main jig panel on your first use.Luckily these hinge screw location holes are only made from the polymer material, which will allow for accurate placement on the first use.The other problem with the hinge screw location holes only being made of polymer is that over time, these holes will widen and become larger than the pilot drill bit. This will cause your screw holes to be drilled out of proper location. All 6 holes (3 on each side) should have a drill bushing or have a single drill bushing plate made of all three holes on each side that the included pilot drill bit fits. This would keep the the screw holes accurate for the life of the jig.Another issue with this jig has to do with the spring loaded center punch. This punch is supposed to be used for marking hole locations. The problem is that the included center punch is smaller in diameter than the drill bushings. This does NOT allow for accurate hole location marking. If you purchase this Alec Tools cabinet jig kit, be sure to purchase a correct sized center punch to use in place of the included spring loaded center punch.The included instructions are very basic and found to be very lacking in detail for quality results. You can easily find good instructional videos on YouTube that will teach you how to properly setup this jig in order the get the best results this kit is capable of performing.On the plus side, the included forstner bit seems to be well made. It includes carbide cutters which should make it last a long time in between sharpening.I don’t recommend the Alec Tools cabinet installation tools jig/kit.
