Very nice mechanical pencils and refills in a kit for a very reasonable price
The three pack of carpenter pencils, for about $19 at the time I write this, seems to me like a very good deal. I am impressed with the quality. In this kit (which comes in a decent case that snaps securely shut) you get three mechanical carpenters pencils that are preloaded with gray pencil graphite. It also comes with SIX plastic drawer-like boxes of replacement “leads” – NINE refill pieces each in box, in graphite gray, blue, yellow, red, and white! (See photo.) That is 54 EXTRA refills in addition to the gray graphite pre-loaded in the pencils. It also comes with a small eraser and three waterproof (maybe permanent?) fine tip markers in yellow, red, and black. The markers are long nib for marking through drilled holes, which is cool, but that also reduces the amount of ink in them, so I suspect they may run dry fairly quickly. I think the eraser and markers are just nice bonuses which may not be that great in the long run. But the pencils (which won’t dry out) are the real deal here. Each mechanical pencil (in red, black, and yellow plastic) comes with a sheath-like protector that has a built-in sharpener. Nice. That they come in three different colors is good for distinguishing different pencils with different colored “leads” installed. The sheaths for the pencils are sturdy and will protect the pencils, but I could see them getting lost if not careful. They come with a pocket clip so the sheath can stay clipped in the pocket or tool pouch when using the pencil.I especially like that the refills include both yellow and white for marking on dark materials like shingles, tar paper, dark wood, etc. Being graphite, they should be able to mark on most surfaces. Considering the kit came with three pencils, a case, LOTS of refills, and the minor extras of markers and eraser for about $19, or $6 per pencil, I am pleased. I plan to put these to good use. Highly recommended.(Full disclosure – I received this item as an Amazon Vine reviewer, but my review is 100% honest, objective, and based on actual use of the item.)

Versatile carpenter’s pencil kit that solves visibility and reach problems at a fair price
I picked up this set for my random shop work and small woodworking projects. It has become a handy tool that I keep close to my bench. Three pencils in different colors let me assign a purpose to each one. I keep a red lead, yellow lead , and black lead at the ready. This allows me to grab a different color depending on what would be seen best when I am working.I used these on some softwood, plywood, and finished faces while fitting hardware and laying out some cuts. Points are easy to sharpen with the onboard sharpeners and the lines are pretty consistent. The long nib markers shine when you need to make a through hole mark for drilling. They also help when you want a small, precise dot rather than a wide swath of marker ink.The pencils are comfortable and the mechanisms feed lead consistently. They are not as “tank like” as the premium mechanical carpenter’s pencils I own, but they are solid enough to work with every day. For the price, the overall quality feels right for these. After some heavy use today, I can say that the leads wear at a normal pace. The colors stay visible and don’t really smudge easily. The markers still flow after several projects and the nibs have not mashed. I expect to replace the marker cartridges sooner than the pencil leads, which is typical for this style.Pros:• Each pencil has a built in sharpener. No hunting for a separate sharpener like my other pencil.• The long nib markers are genuinely useful. They reach down into hinge cups, bracket holes, and pilot holes so you can mark through hardware where a standard marker will not reach.• Colored leads make marks easy to see on both light and dark stock. My eyes are not getting younger, and the color options help a lot when pencil graphite disappears on pale wood or dusty surfaces.• The leads are stout. I only snapped one lead (the green one) during use and that one was on me. The rest have held up to normal pressure on softwood and plywood.Cons:• The pencils do not feel as overbuilt as the heavy duty single pencil I paid about twenty dollars for. That is why I am at four stars rather than five.• I would love a slightly grippier body and/or more spare color leads (greens, blues, whites).I paid as much for a single premium mechanical carpenter’s pencil as this entire kit. Here you get three pencils, built in sharpeners, and the long nib markers. For twenty dollars that is hard to beat if you want a complete layout set that covers most marking jobs. This is a practical, well thought out kit that fixes two everyday problems in my shop. You can see your marks and you can mark through deep holes. The pencils are not as bombproof as top tier options, yet the combination of three colors, onboard sharpeners, and long nib markers makes this a very useful set at a fair price.

Solid addition for your workbench.
Had a friend who has been a huge help with my house remodel and added these to a thank you basket for him (the running joke is that we would have finished the remodel months ago if we didn’t have to keep looking for the pencils we were using.) I wasn’t sure if they would be his thing, but he was really happy with them. He’s been eyeballing them for a while. I did try them out before giving them. The feel is quite comfortable and while I don’t think I would put them in my back pocket like I do the typical carpenter pencils, they would be find with a tool belt or apron.

Good pencil
Everything comes packed nice and neat and a protective clear case. The pencil itself functions nicely and the mechanical action is not sloppy. Once the graphite protrudes through the pencil at your desired length it does not slide back up without mechanically engaging the button. With that said changing out the graphite rod is also very easy and you can either take the button cap off and drop it in or engage the button and push it up through the tip. The pencil also comes with a sheath that has a clip for your pocket and a sharpener on the end. The sharpener works well and the sheath snaps and nice and snug. It comes with plenty of graphite rods to get you started. It comes with nine assorted red and yellow graphite rods and nine extra 2.8 mm gray graphite rods. There is also a little block eraser included just in case. The pencil itself feels OK in the hand and you can mark things and even write with it comfortably. There is also a red colored nib marker included which will come in handy for a certain material. All in all it’s a good set at a good price
